London Trump

The mayor of London Sadiq Khan has allowed a giant 6-metre tall “Trump baby” balloon to fly 30 metres high over the river Thames near Parliament Square in London today, distancing himself from being an arbiter of taste.

This childish and disgraceful protest is an insult to the UK as well as to President Trump.  Londoners have many benefits that the rest of the country do not enjoy. Witness the unique display over London in celebration of the RAF centenary this week. With privilege comes responsibility.  The London mayor should recognise that on occasions, especially public ones, London represents the country.

President Trump’s visit began with a dinner at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, the birthplace of Winston Churchill, whose bust Donald Trump restored to its place in the Oval Office in the White House, after Barak Obama removed it.

During his 4-day visit to the UK he is expected to visit his golf course in Turnberry, Scotland, but attempts to fly the giant blimp there have met with rejection by Police Scotland.

Not only does this baby blimp demonstrate poor taste but, along with recent marches in London, it demonstrates the need to re-visit the role of public marches and call ‘Time’ on them.

  1. A hang-glider greeted the President and First Lady of the United States of America when they arrived at the Presdent of the United State’s golf course at Turnberry last night Friday 13 July and at no time did Police Scotland attempt to stop the individual from doing his stunt.

  2. I was just thinking. Could the bad press that President Trump is getting at the moment be because very few people like him? And see him as being a tad arrogant?

      David,

Sorry I am so tardy at picking up your comment.

True, but it goes further than this. Whenever there is a Republican President of the United States, the anti-Republican rhetoric in the UK rises up. There is less anti-Americanism whenever there is a Democratic President. Some groups are more vocal than others, and some are noisier than others.

  3. Re the handglider stunt whilst President Trump was at Turnberry. Although he was arrested, I don’t think he was charged with anything. I think all he got was a ticking off from the Police.
