U-turn skid marks

Vince Cable, MP, announced that the Lib Dems have U-turned over student tuition fees, joking that the roads to Westminster are covered in skid marks.  Yet, unusually for him, he became quite angry in the House of Commons and said that it was time for the opposition  to “come to terms with reality”.  Did reality not dawn on the Lib Dem Party prior to the General Election?

Reality will now dawn upon the multitude of students who supported and campaigned for the Lib Dems in the last Election.  On the BBC’s This Week, Michael Portillo suggested that a new generation of students will be in place by the next General Election, so that the fall-out may be temporary.

This continues to erode the trust of the public in politicians.  An election every five years seems insufficient to hold politicians to their own promises and policies.  Their word is not their bond.  This is why we need a Christian conscience in public life.

Update:

18 Sep 2018: more U-turns by Vince Cable.
