Surely most of us want competent Government.
When will BBC Panorama make a programme on the incompetence of the UK Government under Sir Keir Starmer and of the SNP Scottish Administration? Why do I ask? Because it has just made a programme about the USA’s Trump Government, apparently to warn or at least inform its audience about the dangers of tech billionaires influencing and even running the US government.
Although it is important to know and observe what is happening in the USA, the US Government is not responsible for the lamentable state of the UK Government. It is certainly true that Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Vice-President J. D. Vance are expressing their concern about the state of Britain and this might be the justification for the BBC Panorama programme. The “Special Relationship” may justify the mutual commentary on each other’s affairs. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” is a jealous rival’s claim of disinterested responsibility.
Whatever concern may be raised about control of Government by tech billionaires, one cannot deny that at least they know how to get things done, which is more than can be said for the UK Westminster Government under Labour and the Scottish Administration under the SNP. Listening to a typical Prime Minister’s Questions or First Minister’s Questions will demonstrate the lamentable state of affairs in Britain.
When will BBC Panorama produce a programme to which we can refer interested parties about Sir Keir Starmer and his appointees in Government –Rachel Reeves, David Lammy, Angela Raynor, etc.? I mean, to expose the incompetence of this particular British Government. It may be that such a programme exists on BBC Panorama but, if so, I have missed it.
Will the British mainstream media expose incompetent Government, in the round rather than simply particular issues? The media was controlled and controlling during the 2020-2021 coronavirus pandemic to such an extent that social media and now “citizen journalism” is telling us what mainstream media does not.
I prefer Government that knows how to get things done for the good of the country. Roll on the biblical Millennium.
Update:
10 Nov 2025: BBC Director General Tim Davie and the Chief Executive of BBC News, Deborah Turness have resigned over “systemic bias” allegations. A recent exposure of a BBC Panorama documentary doctoring Donald Trump’s speech on January 6 seems to be the last straw after a long list of BBC scandals. Trump welcomed the decision.
