The rapprochement between the apostatizing Church of England and the Roman Catholic papacy is reaching a tipping point.
The first point in King Charles III’s message to the nation today was that he and Camilla “were delighted to make a state visit to the Vatican where we prayed with Pope Leo in a historic moment of spiritual unity.” This spiritual unity needs clarification.
It is no coincidence that King Charles’ visit on 23 October 2025 has been followed by a series of announcements from the Vatican, seeking to capitalize on this mood from an accommodating King of Britain who has dabbled in the interfaith movement for so long.
The Guardian headline reads “King Charles calls for reconciliation and unity in Christmas message” and follows with “there was a strong religious element in the address to the nation and Commonwealth from the king”. Truly, for “reconcilation and unity”, read ‘return to Roman Catholicism’. The Sun headline interpreted it as the King “urges country to pull together”, but to what end?
More than once the King’s short broadcast showed images of pope Leo with the King and Camilla, dressed in black as protestant queens must be, when in audience with the Roman Catholic pope in Rome. What reconciliation is this? In plain sight.
Today’s message was about pilgrimage, and such terminology as “holy family” demonstrated that this pilgrimage journey is towards Roman communion, union and dominion.
Inter-faith references were put in the context of a “common longing for peace”, although I know of no international peace conference that puts Jesus, the Prince of Peace, at its centre. The king’s faith in interfaith dialogue is ill-informed and misplaced. This was an anodyne messsage but signalling the Church of England’s journey, with the King at its head, towards Rome.
English Roman Catholic cardinals
So what has pope Leo XIV been doing in the short time since he was elected as Rome’s first American pope on 8 May 2025? First, he has declared Englishman John Henry Newman a doctor of the Roman Catholic faith. This is part of a long-term but recent strategy. Newman was the first non-martyred Roman Catholic to be beatified, conveniently during pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Britain in 2010. Then in St Peter’s Square on 13 Oct 2019 pope Francis obliged by declaring Newman to be first English person since the 17th century to become a Roman Catholic saint, attended by then-Prince Charles. Then, less than six months into his papacy, Leo XIV makes Newman a Roman doctor, even more elite than mere sainthood. He joins a select band of only 38 doctors in the long history of Romanism and he is first Briton born in the past 1,000 years to be given the title. England is being softened up under rapid-fire, as part of the Roman hope to capitalise on this brief Caroline era of religious insecurity.
Roman Catholic cardinal Nicholas Wiseman, the first Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster (1850–1865) after the re-establishment of the Roman Catholic hierarchy in England and Wales in 1850, is credited with saying: “Protestantism conquered in England, it is won everywhere.” The same quote is attributed to his successor Roman Catholic cardinal Henry Edward Manning. It should not surprise us if they both owned the same thought.
The recent papal appointment of Richard Moth only this month to their Westminster seat can only be an improvement from Rome’s point of view after the ineffective tenures of Cormac Murphy-O’Connor and Vincent Nichols.
Britain is viewed by Roman catholics as the Virgin Mary’s dowry. Roman Catholicism is a global institution, with over one billion devotees thinking that Britain belongs to the Virgin Mary. It is yet one more international interference with British national affairs.
If King Charles helps to nudge the Church of England towards Rome, it will be very significant.
Mariolatry
Pope Leo’s elevation of Newman was rapidly followed by another ecumenical move. He clarified that the use of Co-redemptrix applied to the Virgin Mary is not suitable for the “Mother of the faithful”. This has beguiled many Christians into thinking Rome is reforming, but it is no great deal because it has been in hot dispute among Romanists for many centuries. Although it was recently supported by supposed visions, it was contradicted by Benedict XVI, denied by Francis I and now confirmed by Leo XIV as not suitable. It is, of course, not in the Bible but this is true of many things promoted by Roman Catholicism. One may say that it is a step in the right direction – the right direction for the takeover of the Church of England and for the deception of the watching world.
This is the significance of this recent pronouncement. Such a title for Mary as Co-redemptrix is interfering with Roman ecumenical efforts, particularly in winning over the Church of England. The clarification will deceive many a person that Romanism is ‘reforming’ and aligning with Scripture. Rather, it is positioning itself for the engulfing of the Church of England and worldwide Anglicanism.
Mariolatry and the veneration of Mary will continue. The Vatican’s explanation is still insufficient. They are “clarifications”, not corrections. The term “Mediatrix” was applied to Mary in the dogmatic constitution Lumen gentium of the Second Vatican Council. “This, however, is to be so understood that it neither takes away from nor adds anything to the dignity and efficaciousness of Christ the One Mediator.” Big deal; but is Christ not sufficient on His own?
Current pope Leo XIV is now contradicting his namesake Leo XIII who used Co-redemtress for Mary.
It has been a hot topic at various times among Roman Catholics but more recently there has been pressure against it. Why? Wikipedia states: “On April 7, 2017, the Congregation of the Mother Coredemptrix was renamed to the Congregation of the Mother of the Redeemer upon the recommendation of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, due to the “theological ambiguity” of the title Coredemptrix“. In other words, it is for the convenience of drawing more people into the Roman net.
It might help my readers to scan this list of Roman Catholic dogmas. However, of more use will be to read Scripture at Rev 19:10 and Rev 22:9, where the angel in each case refused the veneration from the apostle John and he was told to “worship God”. Roman veneration of saints, images and the Virgin Mary is contrary to Scripture. Certainly, “honour to whom honour is due” Rom 13:7 but not veneration.
Church of England
Things are moving apace in England. A female Archbishop of Canterbury might seem a stumbling block to rapprochement, and it will be for some, but it is likely to accelerate the pace of Anglo-catholics leaving the Church of England to become Romanists. Such conversions are frequently referenced in interviews and build momentum, just like defectors from one political party to another. Roman Catholics are acutely aware of such prominent acquisitions to their numbers and produce lists of them. Romanists are church-orientated, which finds its focus in their Roman papacy, and rather like politicians counting numbers, they measure success in numerical terms. There is current excitement in the UK and America by the election of an American pope in Rome that ‘the young’ are rediscovering religion.
Benedict XVI’s papacy also saw the creation of the Ordinariate for Anglicans in England, to encourage and make it easier for Church of England personnel to move over to Romanism.
Global Anglicanism, global religious alignment and the One-World Church
Further, to win over the Church of England is to begin the process of swallowing up the worldwide Anglican communion. There is much at stake – how to capitalise on the woes of the Church of England, the religious weaknesses and vulnerabilities of King Charles III, and how to manage this takeover smoothly and voluntarily.
What about Scotland?
On 16/11/2022 The Saint Margaret Declaration was signed at Dunfermline Abbey, by the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Roman Catholic Archbishop Leo Cushley and Princess Anne. The Bulwark, Jan 2023, p. 3. It is one of three recent ecumenical documents:
The Columba Declaration with the Church of England (2016);
The Saint Andrew Declaration with the Scottish Episcopal Church (2021) and
The Saint Margaret Declaration with the Roman Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Scotland (2022).
Earlier this month, The Book of Confessions was launched by the Church of Scotland, highlighting that the Church of Scotland has distanced itself from the “polemic against Roman Catholicism”. More is the pity. Its declining congregations is leading to financial pressures and to the need to sell some church buildings. It is managing decline rather than growth. Its ecumenical vision amounts to uniting with Roman Catholicism in celebratory meetings “between the feasts of St Peter and St Paul”. However many Presbyterians can name, far less date these mythical feasts? How has the most fine gold become dim? Lamentations 4:1. Church membership has seen a 35% decrease over the last decade. 77% of its ministers are over 50 years old and 17% are over 65 years. Numbers concentrate the mind and money talks.
Global religion, Realignment and Deception
Although the sinister and cynical moves between the Vatican and the Church of England are almost inevitable, it is preparatory to the global paradigm shift that Jesus explains in the Bible. Many people are already deceived by false religion in spite of His warnings
A recent letter in The Press and Journal corrected a statement in its pages which said that Rome was the centre of Christianity. This is the global perception but the letter-writer reminded readers that Jerusalem is where Christianity began. Rome is not the centre of Christianity. It is the centre of intrigue, but not of Christianity. Yet some are so bold as to display their mistaken opinion that Rome is the centre of Christianity. It is a bold blunder.
Failing to study Jesus’ teaching about false Christianity, people continue to be deceived. These latest manoeuvres will deceive many. It is one more in the long list of deceptive devices that lead people away from the true Christ. Let my readers beware.
