Where is GB News going?

I have been supportive of GB News. Without it, the nation would be less informed because the mainstream media, like the national churches, are failing the nation.

It has won several awards and news presenters like Nigel Farage, who has won the TRIC awards Presenter of the Year for the second year running, have developed its role.

However, it is centred on “the Westminster bubble” and has little to say about the rest of the country, in particular of Scotland. This might be attributed to limited finances and resources, but I have already questioned if this is the whole story.

I have been provoked to write this blogpost by the recent religiosity promoted by GB News. The channel recognizes that Christianity is a British value and there is a growing number of people “coming out” as “cultural Christians” such as Richard Dawkins and Nigel Farage.

I have already criticized its ‘balancing’ homosexual personnel with Roman Catholic ones, and now it is promoting a series of Advent messages with daily presentations from “church ministers right across the country” – aka England. These messages have been anodyne for the most part, but today’s message on Day 12 finally provoked me to create this blogpost. After the usual platitudes about hopeful waiting, we were told we are “looking forward to the return of Jesus Christ, and so we continue to wait”, sounding premillennial and almost Dispensational with no clear distinctions. We were told that “one day He will wipe every tear from their face”, sounding universalist, at least without any specific application. The conclusion? “The message of Jesus Christ is just this, that He is strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.” [21:31]. “Just this”? Really? How useless. It was a sugary use of some Bible texts, relying on proof by assertion to comfort those already subscribed to Christianity but unlikely to make others pause for thought, far less to change their mind. You might consider me too critical but as I continue to expose evangelical errors, why should useless religious messages not be exposed also? Especially when they are in the name of Christianity.

As I write this, Jacob Rees-Mogg is interviewing Eduard Habsburg, the Habsburg heir, ambassador of Hungary to the Roman papacy, who has written another book Building a Wholesome Family in a Broken World [20:43 hrs], advocating the benefits of a large Roman Catholic family. It is part of Rees-Mogg’s Book Club series. With suitable modesty, Habsburg thinks it is an important book for our times, “stating the obvious, a lot” about marriage and children. With predictive insight, if not prophetic assertion, he thinks that people will be thankful for his book. Similar to my saying that people rarely meet a godly person, so he points out that few people have experienced “a wholesome, large family”. This is the second time that Rees-Mogg has interviewed Habsburg for his Book Club. Habsburg was slightly less pompous this time, but still he peddled being “a Christian, ideally a [Roman] Catholic” as the first item on his checklist of advice for young couples, and encouraging people to become [Roman] Catholic, while Rees-Mogg peddled the Roman Catholic dogma that marriage is a sacrament [20:48 hrs].

Habsburg thought chastity “is so much easier in the Catholic church” [20:50 hrs] [look at this link, only today!] with its “tools and teaching” such as confession. Rees-Mogg thought that Roman Catholic confession helps them to “redeem themselves” [20:51]. Truly, a Book Club is an overt but subtle way for Rees-Mogg to promote Roman Catholic teaching on GB News.

Updates:

13 Dec 2024: a more useful explanation of the Gospel appeared on Lee Anderson’s Real World show [at 19:21 hrs]. Gladiator TV star Warren Furman was 42 years old before he heard the Gospel. He was annoyed with the church for not telling him the Gospel before this, and his chat inspired Lee “to pick up the Good Book”. A good result from Furman’s witness although his theology needs improvement. It is not uncommon for the church to fail people. Anglican bishop of Liverpool J. C. Ryle had the same experience and so did I.

16 Dec 2024: just as GB News has broken the mould of British media, so there are now calls to set up independent academic institutions such as universities at 10:45 hrs to break the publication bias in current universities in favour of immigration against academic studies that demonstrate negative impact [10:41 hrs]. This demonstrates how the woke agenda is dividing not only society but academic institutions. What about professional bodies such a medicine, nursing, teaching, etc? This is the price paid for the shifting sands of secular morality.

18 Dec 2024: after tonight’s anodyne Advent message on GB News, Nigel Farage thinks that “they are nice and timely messages” [at 19:31 hrs], reminding me of the spinning I used to experience in the 1980s after hearing mediocre sermons. Farage is probably capable of assessing “nice and timely messages” but his opinion on Christianity is not so accurate.

20 Dec 2024: today’s offering “Day 20” was little better, served up by a variety of brands of Christianity. It went no further than incarnational theology Jn 12:24, peddled the usual Arminian atonement theology of Roman Catholics and Arminian Anglicans, and said nothing about the need of being born again Jn 3:3,5,7. It suggested that it was enough that Jesus had opened the way to heaven without telling us how to make use of it other than, it appeared, by going to church. The use of Christian words and concepts is not enough; they need to be explained properly in a biblical fashion. This is why the Bible speaks so much about counterfeit religion. No wonder that the nation carries on its way Isa 55:7.

23 Dec 2024: in recent days the GB News weather forecast has been about the weather in the Mediterranean Sea, possibly another indicator of GB News’ south coast clientelle who want to spend winter in the Mediterranean sun rather than in Britain.

24 Dec 2024: the Farage “Christmas Special” tonight is a repeat of the 19 Dec programme from Maidstone, Kent. Extraordinarily, the 27 Dec 2024 Farage “Christmas Special” tonight is the same programme. Was it really so good? I don’t think so.

30 Dec 2024: Rees-Mogg’s State of the Nation GB News slot was taken over by Matt Goodwin tonight “stepping up his presenting performances” [at 19:52 hrs]. Sadly, his first topic was the inevitable “illegal migrants” entering Britain. At least Rees-Mogg had interesting and informative topics. I think audience numbers for this slot will now decrease. We do not need more of the Westminster Bubble topics. Martin Daubney helps out with Nigel Farage’s slot and now Matt Goodwin will help with Rees-Mogg, at a time when Kemi Badenoch is complaining about Farage’s exposure and GB News’ criticism of her and her Conservative Party. Possibly GB News is feeling the pressure and there are pressures on Farage’s and Rees-Mogg’s time. The novelty is running out for Farage and Rees-Mogg, and Farage needs to concentrate on building a credible opposition. A current Poll shows that Labour will lose 200 seats including “big hitters” and Reform UK will sore from 5 to 72 seats, with four years to go until the scheduled General Election.

17 Feb 2025: Howard Cox’s criticism of GB News for supporting the Establishment against Tommy Robinson.

19 Feb 2025: why is the GB News’ newsreader made to quote the Vatican’s opinion about pope Francis in Rome as “the holy father” [at 13:08 hrs], which is offensive to biblical Christians because Jesus in the Bible applies this term to God the Father Jn 17:11. Who do they think the pope in Rome is? 23 Jun 2025: a BBC news presenter changed the woke language on the autocue from “pregnant people” to “women”, so why does GB News use Roman Catholic terminology that is offensive to Christians?

15 Apr 2025: I noticed some time ago that Liam Halligan was no longer on GB News but today I heard that he had been “shockingly treated by GB News” but Wikipedia gives no details. He left last year and an internet search yields a few stories about presenters leaving, attributed apparently to GB News financial difficulties. “Halligan was one of the few remaining on-screen faces from the original launch in 2021.”

23 Jun 2025: another GB News presenter has been dismissed. The high “churn-rate” at GB News raises questions about its vetting procedures. GB News’ readiness to allow rowdy debate is prone to people overstepping the mark, but everyone needs to realise that they will have to give account for every idle word they speak Mat 12:36-37, not simply to their employer but more importantly to God Himself before a listening world.

2 Feb 2026: it is months since I looked at GB News. I clicked on the Live online button tonight and there were about three to four minutes of the same tedious adverts and pre-view clips before I reached the programme. How do they hope to catch new viewers in an age when people click between programmes to see what is on?

10 Feb 2026: Ben Habib’s view of GB News: it will not tolerate criticism of Reform UK.
