Many people acknowledge that the world would be a better place if people were like Jesus Christ. So why not listen to Him?

Why do people ignore His message? Why do politicians in particular ignore His message?

The world thinks it can promote peace but it has singularly failed. How many dozen countries are currently at war?

Every new peace effort fails on human jealousies, pride, greed, corruption, nursing historic wrongs and much more.

The basics

Jesus tells us to begin with the basics. We need to begin with ourselves, and it is a radical beginning at that. We ourselves need to change, and not simply to change our principles and procedures. We need to be born again, with a better spirit than the one with which we were born.

Jesus calls it being “born again” Jn 3:3,5-7, beginning again with a new spirit – God’s Spirit.

Finding peace

People want peace with themselves and peace on Earth, but they should seek peace with God first.

Jesus says: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you” Mat 6:33. There are many benefits.

Peace with God.

Peace of conscience.

Peace with our portion in life – rather than causing dispeace with constant grumbling, discontentment and grievance politics, or even worse, stealing from others.

Peace with others. How good life would be if we lived at peace with our neighbours, and even our enemies, as Jesus said: “Love your enemies” Mat 5:44. Have you discovered the benefit of living at peace with your enemies?

This is so relevant for the peace of society that Governments should promote it in schools, families and society at large.

The peace dividend – have Governments forgotten about this? It seems that the wealthy want their dividends from the flourishing arms industry – money rather than peace.

Governments

It is because Governments do not promote peace within their own borders that they are unable to promote peace internationally.

There have been many peace initiatives but the world stands on the brink of another global conflagration. Perhaps it will take only a spark for these global tensions to erupt. Has World War III already begun, adopting modern forms of warfare, not yet recognisable as open warfare?

Different types of warfare

There are many kinds of warfare. Military, ethnic, religious, cultural, civil, national and international, morphing in modern times into ideological, economic, technological and cyberwarfare. Jesus traces it to the anger in the human heart Mat 5:22, anger at many different things.

Class warfare, gang warfare, drugs wars and the battle of the sexes have joined these, and now new frontiers have opened up with propaganda warfare, BLM and climate warriors, and gender issues creating more strife between man and man. It is as if troublemakers are determined to divide society so that man does not live at peace with his neighbour.

Jesus said: “Blessed are the peacemakers” Mat 5:9. They seem to be few and far between.

Many do not love their neighbour as themselves.

It is time for national governments to listen to the Prince of Peace Isa 9:6 and to implement His programme for global peace.

The angels announced it over 2000 years ago.

“Peace on Earth, good will toward men.”

“Now, therefore, kings, be wise; be taught you judges of the earth, and serve God reverently.”

Psalm 2: 10-11

When will they listen? When will they begin? Meanwhile the poor and the needy suffer Pro 31:9,20.

“Now the God of peace, Who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Tobias Ellwood M.P. and former Chair of the UK Defence Select Committee warns that Hamas will follow the IRA into politics and commented about Britain’s defences: “We are not prepared for the Cold War, which will be different from the last, or a world at war [7:27 p.m.] will be different from the last, which is coming over the horizon, I promise you.” A new terminology for World War III, but “it will be different”. The military response to both 9/11 and the Gaza-Israeli War have been used cynically to spawn more violent islamic extremism. When will national leaders listen to the Prince of Peace?

15 Jan 2024: Retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges said today that if nations do not take the threat of Russia “seriously” and act in “alliance” then World War Three could develop in just 18 months. Of course, he means military warfare, but WWIII has already begun, in the preliminary stages of new forms of warfare. This is all the more reason for global leaders to learn proper Christian diplomacy and stop ignoring the Prince of Peace.
